Community Profile: FASD Key Worker

In April 2006 the new FASD Key Worker Program had its beginnings throughout the province and here in Campbell River.  The program is funded by MCFD and delivered through the Campbell River and District Association for Community Living.  Mary Catherine Bellamy, our local Key Worker, is responsible for supporting families in the region (including Campbell River, Gold River, Tahsis, Zeballos, Sayward, and Quadra and Cortes Islands).  To access the program, children and youth, up to 19 years of age, have a diagnosis of FASD or are suspected of living with the effects of prenatal exposure to alcohol (no diagnosis is needed).  The Key Worker can offer information and support to families, help identify and advocate for needed supports and services and help to educate the community on FASD.  She also facilitates regular Parent to Parent Support gatherings for parents, family members and caregivers who are raising children living with FASD.

For more information, please call Mary Catherine at 250-203-0488 or check out the web at www.mcf.gov.bc.ca/fasd/
